HAPPY BIRTHDAY CHARLES DARWIN!

Charles Darwin arrived at St Helena on the morning of 8 July 1836 during his voyage on HMS Beagle. On St Helena Darwin would meet individuals of every species belonging to all parts of the archipelago. It might be truly said that St Helena Island was the primitive focus, or centre, of a certain type of vegetation, whereas, in the surrounding isles, there would be a smaller number of species, yet all belonging to the same group. Charles Darwin's St Helena Model Notebook can be read here. Read his record from Darwin's Beagle Diary here.
